Christmas time is here!

This has got to be my most FAVORITE holiday of the year!! So much to this holiday that I love, including: Christ's birth, Christmas tree's, lights, decorations, shopping, friendly people [for the most part], pretty bows & paper, desserts & SOO much more! This year I chronicled my family building our [fake] tree & decorating. Now, I am including the mantle decor because of the after shot :(  Last night my daughter was trying to change how the lights blink, and in doing so, pulled the entire contents of the mantle off....subsequently breaking all of my oh so lovely stocking holders that I WAITED and WAITED to go on sale last year. :(  Now I'm without stocking holders & I don't even know what to get because I loved these so much haha Pretty sad, I know.

Tuesday's Trash to Treasure: Journal

Journal Tutorial
Reuse: paper

Materials:
*Paper
*White Collage Board (from a craft store)
*1" rings (from office supply store, or Hobby Lobby)
*Hole punch or scrapbook tool to make holes
*Decorative paper, stickers, anything to decorate the covers

_First cut out the cardboard/collage board to the size you want your book. 

_Cut the blank papers for the inside of the book - I did mine a little smaller than the cover. You can do yours flush with the cover if you'd like. 

_Decorate the front & back covers with your decorative paper & embellishments.

_Punch holes through the covers and paper inserts. 

_Put it all together on the rings & you're finished! Nice thing about this journal/book is with using the rings, you can add more paper once you run out, if you want to use it as a notepad. :)

New flower bed /

I finally got around to redoing my flower bed in the front yard a few weeks ago, and now it looks FABULOUS :)  I forgot to take pics of the before, but trust me it was weedy and nasty hehe It wasn't too hard, and it only took a weekend to do!

*Remove brick border
*Remove rock and weeds from flower bed
*Till ground
*Remove old plants/shrubs
*Fill in holes where brick was
*Lay new mulch
*Plant flowers

Tuesday's Trash to Treasure: [easy] Quilt

Quilt Tutorial
Reuse: Fabric Scraps

Materials:
*Sewing Machine
*Fabric
*Sewing items (pins, scissors, etc)
*Quilters Batting
*Patience :)

Gather & cut your fabric for the front side, I cut mine in 5" squares.

Layout the pieces to how you want them to lay. Sew them together, starting with each row. I used roughly 1/4" seam allowance. Press the seams flat.

Once you have your rows sewn, sew those together to make one large square. One very HELPFUL TIP, start in the center and measure the two vertical seams together, then pin. Pin out the rest of that row the same. If the top seams don't match up, you'll see that in your finished product :(  Press the seams flat.

Now you will need to make a border, I found a tutorial on how to make mine here. My border is 4" wide.

Once your borders are sewn on, press the seams flat. You will now measure & cut out the batting and back pieces. 

This next step I completely forgot to do, but you should do it :) Now you need to baste your quilt. Find the tutorial here.

You can machine quilt your quilt now, or if you'd like, after the binding. I did my binding first, here's how it turned out.

NOW it's time do make this blanket look like a quilt! I did a simple "x" pattern on just the middle section.
